Soft tissue models and guides were designed alongside the plastic surgeon performing fat injections for a periorbital reconstruction to reduce guesswork. Two guides were created using 3D soft tissue data: the first was an injection marking template (depicting volumetric facial asymmetry), and the second was a surface guide used to track the volumetric changes from serial injections. This guide also provided tangible feedback to the surgeon once symmetry had been reached.
For a dorsal hump reduction, the plastic surgeon used 3D-printed models and guides to depict the anatomy of the patient for pre-operative and simulated post-operative conditions. Guides were created based on the patient's pre-op 3D scan and simulated outcome. The first guide accurately marked the dorsal hump reduction on each side of the nose, while the second guide tracked the surgeon’s progress towards the simulated profile during surgery.
Conjoined Twins Case
MirrorMe3D created soft tissue models for reference during the planning of a craniopagus conjoined twins separation surgery. The surgical team used the models throughout the case to track progress over multiple surgeries as well as for pre-operative team planning and intra-operative reference. This case was featured in an award winning documentary made by CNN in 2017.
